3 Disadvantages Of Driving through Flood This Rainy Season.

Its that time of the year again and the rains are upon us , that time when the weather condition becomes unpredictable, that time when its sunny now and the next minute there's a heavy down pour.

For motorists this is the time of the year to expect flood in most parts given the dilapidated state of most of our roads, its a time to exert some level of caution when driving along some of these flood and port hole infested roads.
Modern cars of now are equipped with electronic components which are not friendly with these conditions and as such stringent measures must b strictly adhered to when faced with these conditions.

Below are three disadvantages of driving past flood during the rainy
season.

HYDRO-LOCK

In simple terms hydrolock is a situation where a car breathes water instead of air, this can happen when a car drives in a pond , flood or river.
An engine is designed to compress air in orders to facilitate combustion , but if water goes in instead this could be detrimental.
When faced with a flood situation , before driving through this flood its best to consider the level of your car most manufactures nowadays locate the air intake manifold well below the hood , there are chances that when driving in portholes that are deep enough water might find its way through the intake manifold into the engine and instead of air the engine in its attempt to compress water in order to maintain combustion might suffer serious damage  notably to the piston , connecting Rods, engine block and other vital components.

CLOGGED UP RADIATOR

When we drive through these floods or portholes as the case may be unknown to us our radiators also go through the motion and in these process soil sediments , and other dirt particles cling on to the radiator fins this is usually very unhealthy because when the radiator becomes clogged up by these particles it becomes difficult for it to maintain adequate engine temperature which ultimately leads to overheating.

DAMAGE TO E.C.M AND OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS

Most car manufactures nowadays prefer to fit the vehicle E.C.M (Brain Box) around the leg room area in the passenger front seat, this could be damaging as when such vehicle is immersed in flood and water finds it way inside the car this could easily damage the E.C.M leading to very expensive repairs.
Also riding through flood especially with low level vehicles could expose its electrical components such as relay switches, wheel speed sensors  to severe damage  leading to costly  repairs.

ONE WORD

Its best to avoid driving through flood or portholes this season , but if left without a choice be sure to know the exact dept of these floods or  portholes before attempting to drive through them.
