The style and design of the Toyota FJ cruiser was tailored towards the original FJ40 and its rugged capabilities, the concept behind its development at the time was to capture a segment of the market which Toyota felt it was loosing track of, this lead to the conceptualization of the FJ cruiser as an R.Y.U vehicle ( Rugged Youth Utility ) with the aim of attracting young male buyers which they felt they werent getting enough of "little wonder the Toyota FJ cruiser could be seen as a masculine vehicle owing to its exterior design and appearance".
